It’s never too late to quit smoking

The 13th of March this year marks the 40th anniversary of No Smoking Day. Since then, more and more people have been quitting smoking, and we are closer to building a smokefree generation.

But over 5.3 million adults in England still smoke. Almost every minute of every day someone is admitted to hospital in England with a smoking-related disease and smoking remains the single largest preventable cause of death in England.

Most people already know about the risks of smoking – but did you think about the benefits and good news if you quit?

  • Quitting smoking is the best thing you can do for your health, and the health of your family and those around you.
  • The average smoker spends £38.59 a week on tobacco – that’s almost £2000 saved a year if you quit (double that if you smoke a pack day).
  • It’s never too late to quit smoking. When you stop smoking, there are almost immediate improvements to your health.
  • It’s much easier to stop smoking when you get the right support from your local stop smoking service: In fact, you are THREE times as likely to quit for good if you get specialist support.
  • Nicotine vapes are now one of the most effective stop smoking aids for adult smokers. Almost two-thirds of people who use a vape along with professional support successfully quit smoking.
