Public consultation on proposed move of Moorfields Eye Hospital’s (City Road) Services

A public consultation is running on a proposal to move Moorfields Eye Hospital’s services to a new centre bringing together excellent eye care, ground-breaking research and world-leading education in ophthalmology. The consultation runs between Friday 24 May and Monday 16 September – and we would like to hear your views.

Eye care services would move from the current hospital at City Road, London, along with Moorfields’ partner in research and education, the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Charity.

Moorfields and UCL would sell the current land at City Road and all proceeds of the sale would be reinvested in a multi-million pound development on land available at the site of St Pancras Hospital, just north of King’s Cross and St Pancras stations in central London.

Camden Clinical Commissioning Group is running the public consultation in partnership with NHS England (Specialised Commissioning) and on behalf of those CCGs across England that commission Moorfields’ services. The consultation responses will inform a decision in January 2020 on whether the proposed move is:

  • in the interests of the health of our populations, locally and nationally
  • in line with our long-term plans to improve health and care
  • an effective use of public money.
