Service User/Carer Mental Health Volunteering Opportunity

11/09/2018

Exciting opportunity for mental health service users and carers to shape London mental health services.

The Advocacy Project https://www.advocacyproject.org.uk/what-we-do/ have recently started working with NHS England to recruit service user and carers to feed into a London-wide mental health programme called the Adult Mental Health Transformation Programme.

The programme has six workstreams:

  • increasing access to psychological therapies (IAPT)

  • digital IAPT

  • early intervention in psychosis

  • MH in Integrated Care Systems

  • London Mental Health Transformation Board

  • perinatal mental health

They are currently looking for two service user and carer representatives per workstream and a wider network of service user and carer representatives to review papers and feed in their views.

They will be training service users and carers to take on the roles and they will receive ongoing support and supervision to make sure that they are genuinely involved in the workstream meetings and planning. There are different levels of involvement, they can find a role that suits the individual. This is a voluntary position however they hope that it will provide a pathway to employment or other opportunities for those involved.  The initial deadline for applications is 17th September however applications and interest will continue to be accepted beyond this date.

They see this as a really exciting opportunity and a chance for service users and carers to have a voice and shape services at a strategic level.
