Working with acclaimed urbanists Allied and Morrison Urban Practitioners, the Council has developed an ambitious regeneration Delivery Prospectus for Ilford Town Centre
Ilford is the Borough’s key focus for regeneration and growth and within the Town Centre we expect to deliver 6,000 new homes and create 2,000 new jobs. The town’s significant growth potential will be unlocked to reinvigorate and rebuild its status.
Earlier this year, the Council launched Manifesto for Ilford Town Centre which set out a number of promises aimed at reclaiming the town’s place as the heart of a modern East London.
The Prospectus takes the promises within the Manifesto and sets out how they can be delivered across the Town Centre in spatial form.
Key elements include:
-
exploring opportunities to strengthen retail, residential, leisure and community spaces within the Town Centre
-
providing the right space to support Ilford’s entrepreneurial businesses with flexible business spaces
-
turning the Town Centre’s highways into streets by reducing the impact of cars and stitching the Town Centre back into its surrounding neighbourhoods with new and enhanced pedestrian connections
-
introducing new uses to the Town Centre including schools, health facilities and an evening economy to support a growing residential population
-
strengthening Ilford’s cultural and civic core by developing a new cultural quarter around the Town Hall
-
celebrating and enhancing the historic fabric and character that helps to make the Town Centre unique
-
revealing the nearby River Roding by exploring opportunities to provide pedestrian routes along the riverside
