Dignity Action Day Poems

Here are two poems written by our members for Dignity Action Day.

WHO WE ARE

Life comes without a guarantee

We are the way we’re meant to be

And there is no rule that makes us all the same

We celebrate diversity

Yet Life on Earth is so unique

Respecting all Mankind is what we seek

And Who We Are is all we have

It stays with us until the end

Experience is the reward we gain

We learn from happiness or pain

Memories are individual to our selves

Those thoughts that we all retain

Recollections of our long gone years

Bring to us smiles or tears

Time does pass and youth will fade

But Who We Are will still remain.

It is up to us to make our choices

When something’s wrong, then hear our voices

We know there is sadness too

It is just a part of the life we knew

Time slips by with great speed

Then its friends and neighbours we may need

And Who We Are is always there

But now we need a little care

Despite the changes that emerge

Those older years have helped us learn

The past will always stay unchanged

The future still remains unknown

But experience has made us strong

It has taught us much upon life’s journey

And Who We Are will always be

For it is the essence of our legacy

Vitality may show some stress

But it’s from within we find our strength

Though we may seek a little help

And still remain our old self

The same again of the human race

It is what’s inside not just the face

It is Who We Are that gives us the ability

To live our Lives with Dignity!

 A home

They call this a home,

But it's not , as it's not my own,

Only strangers live here,

There is no one here to call my near and dear.

I have given a lot all my life,

I have been a good and supportive wife,

To my children a loving mother,

An affectionate sister to my brother.

I was there for every one,

Contributed and joined in their laughter and fun, god knows how I managed, but no one went short, I struggled endlessly, but only pleasure and satisfaction I got.

I saw them through their hurts and tears, I am not complaining god , but when i cry no one hears, there is so much comings and goings around me, and it's all about me , mine, I, never ours or we.

If in this solitary state i am to die,

No one to shed a tear or cry,

Lord please release me from the shackles of this lonely life, or do i have more ' karmic debts 'to pay and suffer more strife.
