Certain treatments no longer funded by the local NHS
Yesterday the governing bodies of Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge Clinical Commissioning Groups (BHR CCGs) agreed to no longer fund certain treatments, medicines and procedures as we look to make further savings for the local NHS.
The CCG are required to save £55 million in 2017/18. ‘Spending NHS money wisely 2’ identified a potential £3.75 million of savings through restricting or ceasing funding for a number of non-life threatening treatments, medicines and procedures and involved an eight week public consultation. Over 760 responses were received.
GPs agreed to stop prescribing over the counter sleeping tablets, sunscreens, anti-malarial medicines and certain “non-essential” procedures, as well as restricting who is eligible for cataract surgery and podiatry.
