Dance for Fitness and Wellbeing

Colours of Redbridge are hosting a 12-week dance programme overseen by expert instructors from internationally-acclaimed dance company Rambert.

This class is open to everyone over the age of 16, and is designed for people who want to improve their fitness and wellbeing over a number of weeks. It is particularly suitable for people who have retired and those with disabilities or health conditions living in Redbridge.

No prior experience of dance is necessary – these workshops are designed to be fun and accessible for all skill levels.

The first 6 weeks will showcase a selection of different dance styles to try and in the last 6 weeks participants will choose which style they prefer as a group and will work towards a final showcase.

  1. Thursday 5th September, Caribbean – this session will explore styles such as Carnival, Soca, Dancehall and more
  2. Thursday 12th September,  70s Disco – a fun and energetic session exploring dance styles of the 1970s, using music from this time
  3. Thursday 19th September,  Indian – this session will explore styles such as Bollywood, Bhangra and Kathak
  4. Thursday 26th September, Street Dance – a fun and energetic session specialising in funk styles, locking and popping
  5. Thursday 3rd October, TBC
  6. Thursday 10th October, Social Dance – this session will explore dance styles such as the Lindy Hop, the Jive, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Waltz and Swing

There are 2 sessions per day – each lasting 1 hour. The first session is chair based at 2pm,  and the second is non chair-based starting at 3:30pm. This activity is particularly suitable for people with limited mobility: please choose the activity that is right for you, whether that is chair-based or standing. 

All of Redbridge Colours activities are step-free with facilities such as accessible toilets. Most activities can be easily adapted for people with varying disabilities or neurodiversity. Please email the team at access@colours.red to discuss your requirements.

The sessions are running in the Marjorie Collins MS centre in Chadwell Heath, there is plenty of room to park on site, and it is served by a number of bus routes.
